Fall Work Day

Date/Time
Date(s) - 10/05/2024
10:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Fall work day on the ILYM campus in McNabb, IL will be Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tasks to be worked on include: sticks, trimming trees, painting, cleaning up the Clear Creek House patio and remove the fence, fixing windows/shutters and much more. The more people who come to help, the more that will get done! Lunch will be a potluck so please bring a dish to share.

Detailed list:

  • Stick pick-up and try to burn the large pile if weather permits,
  • Prime and paint the board patches on the meetinghouse caused by the raccoons
  • Clean up the area near the Clear Creek House patio of rocks and stuff and take down the fence where the wood heater was.
  • Some of the metal heating diffusers at CCH are not fastened properly to the ductwork or walls. Assess and try to fasten them better.
  • Board up the CCH garage south window. Mike Dennis was going to help with this, but might need assistance.
  • Repair and re-glue the wood shutter in the meetinghouse at the bay window.
  • The west main meetinghouse door is sagging and rubbing on the floor. Previously folks have shaved the door and threshold. Might need some really long screws to try to re-hang, to hold the hinges in place, or something else. It is huge and heavy, so this could be more than we can easily handle.
  • Maybe try to finish the ramp handrails that Mark Robinson was working on so that they return nicely to the guard structure.
  • Is there any stair work at the cabins? There is a rear door at one that isn’t closing properly that needs attention. Any screen door repair work?
  • Maybe paint the south wall of the dining room in the cabinet area and see if other walls need a touch up depending on workday attendance.
  • Could cut the small trees out of the Hans Peters spruces at the southeast corner of the meetinghouse property, and possibly other areas along the east fenceline. Need cordless saws and maybe large cloppers for this work.
  • Likewise, could cut down the thicket up against the north side of the metal shed where we store all our stuff for annual sessions.
  • The metal shed might have the old meetinghouse sign that fell apart. We ought to repair and restore that sign. Peter Lasersohn may have benn thinking about doing this, but maybe others can look at it and repair it for him (or someone) to do the re-lettering. It would be nice if we got it re-installed (probably somewhat relocated and with new posts installed) next Spring.

There will also be a special presentation from Evan Welkin, the Executive Secretary of the FWCC Section of the Americas during an extended lunch break.

Please contact Margie Haworth-Davis via the contact us form to let her know you are coming, what tasks you would like to take charge of and if you have any questions.
